Sprague Pond, Dedham MA Fishing Report

Sprague Pond. Kayak Trip Number 1

This is a local pond with little shore access... lots of lily pads. Now that I have a kayak, I was eager to get out.

I caught my first kayak fish. 1.5 pound bass. Not worth mentioning if it wasn't my first. I DID NOT want to get skunked. Finally, minutes before it was completely dark, I swapped up to a 7" green and white yammamotto. The little bass smashed it.

I had 2 or 3 strong hits right after and couldn't capitalize. I'll def go back, and I'll certainly use the green and white.

  • zspook1: I certainly believe the 7.14. I saw a few 5/6 pounders come out when I fished from the shore last summer. As far as the carp go, I will certainly bring corn next time I go out and grab one.

I am a big fan of Sprague. I went back this AM with a FF friend this morning, and stopped in again for an hour tonight. He nailed 4 good bass this morning for 2.5 hours. I got another 1.5lb tonight when I had a half hour to kill.

  • Love Sprague….I grew up in Dedham and used to fish it as a kid along with Big Wigwam and Little Wigwam ponds in Dedham. All three have decent bass and carp.

  • Let me the first to tell you don't give up on that little honey hole..i grew up in Hyde Park and used to fish it all the time..i have a wall hanger from there that went 7.14lbs hit a buzzbait many many years ago..if the bass fishing is slow you can always break out the dough balls because there are carp in there up to 20 lbs..good luck
