4/12/11 - Lake Cochituate
Afterwork tonight I got in some fishing time from about 530pm-7pm. Not too windy, and the sun even poked out here and there briefly. About 60 degrees, nice.
Started with a jig, and had a keeper bass follow and swipe at in about 5ft from shore, but caught me off guard, and I missed it. No dice on the jerkbait, or shallow crank. So went back to the jig, and finally felt that BUMP, but missed. Re-tie do to abrasion in the line, and BUMP, and the line takes off, and SNAP...I see a monster swirl in the water, as I stand there stunned knowing I just broke off a horse of a fish. Expletives surely followed! Re-tied on a new jig, and tried to refocus, and catch that fish that has my jig stuck in its lip.with in a couple casts, BUMP, set-the hook, and land a nice 17-1/2in 2-3/4lb Largemouth. Check the line and knot(lesson learned) and recast. BUMP, and again the line takes off, set the hook and land my biggest Bass out of Cochituate @ 20in 4-1/4lbs. Finished up the night with 1 more keeper Bass @ 12-1/2in 3/4lb.
I know the one I broke off was bigger than my best one tonight. But on the other hand, I was happy, I was able learn from a mistake, refocus, and not let it ruin my night. Plus 3 keeper Bass for 7-3/4lbs, Ill take that any night!
Thanks Crease, on that particular rod I have 12lb P-Line Flouroclear copolmer.
Nice job great report thanks for sharing. What line were you using?
Again thanks everyone, I was able to put up the rest of the story for that night.
Thanks guys! Seems to be a little glitch in the site. Ill put up the rest of the story when its fixed.
